Will Your Apple Watch Run watchOS 27? Here’s the Full List of Compatible Models
Apple said the Series 9 omission was a website error, while watchOS 27 still limits support to newer models.
Following confusion at Monday's WWDC26 keynote, Apple confirmed that omitting the Apple Watch Series 9 from the watchOS 27 compatibility list was a mistake, and the device remains supported.
Apple unveiled watchOS 27 at its annual developer conference, introducing "Siri AI" and expanded health features while implementing an aggressive cutoff that drops support for the Series 6, 7, 8, original Ultra, and second-generation SE.
Series 9 owners reported successfully downloading the developer beta, prompting discovery of the discrepancy, which Apple subsequently confirmed to Gizmodo was an error requiring website correction.
While the Series 9 retains support, users expressed concerns over battery life; Apple noted "battery optimizations may be suggested," but provided no specific performance data.
The new operating system arrives for users later this year, with a public beta scheduled for July, granting the Series 9 and newer improved contextual awareness and natural language support.
