Apple Just Gave the iPad Mini Its ‘Biggest Update Ever’
Apple says the redesign adds a larger OLED screen, A20 Pro performance and IP67 water resistance, with prices starting at $699.
On Friday, Apple unveiled its new iPad Mini featuring an 8.5-inch OLED display and upgraded A20 Pro chip, calling it the "biggest update ever" for the tablet.
The previous 7th-generation iPad Mini, released in 2024 with an A17 Pro chip, faced criticism as the "black sheep" of Apple's tablet lineup, prompting this redesign.
Featuring an "Acoustic Display" that hides "custom tweeters" for "punchier bass and more volume," the tablet includes an IP67 rating and repositioned landscape front camera.
Pricing for the device starts at $699 for the Wi-Fi model and $849 for Wi-Fi and cellular, with pre-orders beginning Wednesday, October 28th.
Despite the upgrades, the device lacks "ProMotion" and remains limited to a 60Hz refresh rate; Apple senior vice president Greg Joswiak told reviewers the company does not "concern ourselves with cannibalization.
Thinner, faster and more expensive, but finally with OLED display. Apple's mini tablet has been revised. It now comes in two performance classes. Delivery starts on November 6th.
