Apple Says There Are Already over 100,000 Apps Built for iPhone Duo

Apple says thousands of developers are updating apps for the foldable, with more than 2,000 attending workshops and 100,000 apps already live.

  • On Friday, Apple announced that over 100,000 apps are now optimized for the iPhone Duo, which launched two weeks ago. Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said developers have embraced the new device quickly.
  • Apple facilitated this growth by hosting more than 50 in-person workshops across 19 cities over the past month. Over 2,000 developers attended these sessions to learn about new APIs and optimize their software for the foldable display.
  • Optimized apps receive a "Made for iPhone Duo" badge in App Store listings. Recent additions include Microsoft Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Word, along with Instagram, Netflix, and YouTube.
  • While the ecosystem is growing, many popular apps remain unoptimized, including Venmo and Starbucks. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri previously called the hardware a "bit of a tricky form factor."
  • Developers using standard SwiftUI and UIKit components can adapt apps automatically to the inner display, while new APIs allow for custom layouts and hinge poses. Apple expects the pace of updates to continue accelerating.
