Apple and LG Bring Connected Cameras To Your Home
Apple is expanding beyond certification with partner-made doorbells, cameras, locks and sensors that set up like AirPods and work through Siri.
On Tuesday, Apple unveiled the Apple Home Collection, a new lineup of smart home accessories co-developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, featuring cameras, thermostats, and a smart lock designed for seamless integration with Apple Home.
This launch marks a strategic shift for Apple, which previously relied on third-party certification; now it co-designs hardware to build a 'new flagship standard' for its ecosystem and ensure deeper product integration.
The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock supports Ultra-Wideband technology for hands-free unlocking at $349, while cameras deliver 2.5K resolution with end-to-end encrypted video storage requiring no separate subscription.
Products will begin shipping in December, with select items arriving early next year, while Apple will offer professional installation through ADT at Apple Retail locations starting this fall.
New products centralize control within the Apple Home ecosystem through integration with the HomeView smart display powered by Siri AI, enabling unified management of cameras, locks, and thermostats.
