Siri Just Moved Into Your iPhone Camera, and It’s Pretty Handy
Siri Mode now appears in the Camera app and can translate text, identify plants and provide food insights, Apple said.
On Monday at the Worldwide Developers Conference in Cupertino, California, Apple unveiled iOS 27 with a new Siri mode integrated into the Camera app, enabling Visual Intelligence to identify objects and provide real-time contextual information.
Built on Apple's Foundation AI models, the feature replaces previous manual triggers by allowing users to simply tap the shutter button to access visual assistance, making the technology more discoverable and user-friendly.
Demonstrations showed Siri identifying a cricket ball as "made of cork layered with tightly wound string and cased in a leather shell," and breaking down restaurant receipts to split bills via Apple Cash, with conversations saved in the Siri app.
Alongside camera upgrades, Apple introduced new Photos app features including Clean Up, Extend, and Spatial Reframe, while confirming that 29 iPhone models will receive iOS 27 support—a first for the company.
This computer vision technology mirrors features already available on Google Pixel phones, while Apple is reportedly working on embedding similar capabilities into future AirPods with cameras and smart glasses.
