Anthropic's AI to Help Apple Find iOS, macOS, and Safari...

Anthropic says the preview has found thousands of vulnerabilities and will stay limited to about 40 partner organizations for defensive testing.

  • On Tuesday, Anthropic announced Project Glasswing, an initiative using its Mythos Preview model to identify security vulnerabilities across systems. The company is partnering with major organizations to strengthen defensive cybersecurity efforts.
  • The launch follows a security lapse two weeks ago when unpublished information about Claude Mythos was discovered in a publicly accessible database. Anthropic subsequently restricted public access to the model, citing significant security risks.
  • Mythos Preview uncovered a bug in OpenBSD that had existed for 27 years and spotted vulnerabilities in Linux that could hijack machines. Anthropic claims the model outperformed Claude Opus, which previously identified hundreds of undetected security flaws.
  • About 40 organizations, including Apple, Google, and Microsoft, will access the preview for defensive security work. Anthropic is committing up to $100 million in usage credits to support the collaborative effort.
  • According to Anthropic, the collaboration has identified "thousands of high-severity vulnerabilities" across major operating systems and web browsers. The company stated, "Project Glasswing is an urgent attempt to put these capabilities to work for defensive purposes.
