Anthropic announces 'Claude Corps' to teach nonprofits to use AI more effectively

Anthropic will fund 1,000 AI-trained fellows and give at least 400 nonprofits $10,000 grants and free Claude credits, officials said.

  • Anthropic launched Claude Corps on Wednesday, a $150 million fellowship program embedding 1,000 fellows trained in its AI chatbot at nonprofits nationwide to advance organizational missions.
  • To create the program, Anthropic partnered with CodePath, the San Francisco-based nonprofit founded to help first-generation students enter tech. CodePath CEO Michael Ellison aimed to modernize volunteer service models gutted by Trump administration cuts last year.
  • Anthropic will provide at least 400 host organizations with $10,000 grants and free Claude credits. Separately on Wednesday, the company pledged $200 million to support an economic framework helping workers displaced by AI.
  • Cincinnati-Based StriveTogether will host fellows across its 27-state network, with CEO Jennifer Blatz noting that "AI can help us work smarter, but trust building and community collaboration, that's a deeply human part of the work." Anthropic will evaluate the program after one year.
  • Bella DeVaan, director of the Charity Reform Initiative at the Institute of Policy Studies, remains skeptical, arguing AI companies "can't be responsible for their own regulation." Anthropic, valued at $965 billion, recently filed for an IPO while balancing commercial and social impact goals.
