Mayor Andy Burnham to Give Prestwich £6.8m for Regeneration
The fund aims to create over 22,000 jobs and nearly 3,000 homes by unlocking £1.3bn in private investment across more than 30 projects, addressing local inequalities.
- On Thursday, Andy Burnham launched a �1bn Greater Manchester Good Growth Fund to fund 30 regeneration schemes across the region, speaking in Stockport.
- The fund is designed to kickstart projects private investors are not backing and to spread growth across all boroughs in Greater Manchester.
- Funding will combine 300m from the Greater Manchester Pension Fund and GMCA borrowing up to 150m, with the first 400m expected to unlock 1.3bn and deliver nearly 3,000 homes and over 22,000 jobs.
- Each borough has been asked to pick three priority projects, with half set for funding approval next week as 13 of the first 31 projects face some council leader contention.
- Burnham urged Chancellor Rachel Reeves to use her Budget next week to approve Northern Powerhouse Rail and an alternative to the cancelled HS2 northern leg, while the fund uses a first-of-its-kind integrated settlement modelled on GMHILF.
