Andrew Novak Makes Late Run of Birdies to Build 3-Shot Lead in the Mexico Open
Novak matched his PGA Tour low with a 61 and said favorable scoring conditions helped him build a three-shot cushion.
On Friday, Andrew Novak shot a 10-under 61 at Vidanta Vallarta, matching his career-low PGA Tour score and securing a three-shot lead in the Mexico Open.
Favorable scoring conditions at Vidanta Vallarta have aided the field, but Novak credits a recent putter change for his breakthrough after eight months of struggling on the greens.
Novak holed a 12-foot eagle putt on the 13th hole, then gained a two-shot swing over Ben Griffin on the 15th with a birdie from just outside 15 feet.
U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark and Tony Finau missed the cut, while Matthieu Pavon, Adrien Dumont, and Kensei Hirata remain in contention.
Novak enters the weekend at 14-under 128, saying, "There's so much golf to play," while emphasizing the need to maintain fairway accuracy.
