Andrew Novak Goes Low Again for 62, Builds Six-Shot Lead in Mexico Open
Novak matched the low round of the day and remained at 23-under, with only three bogeys through 54 holes.
On Saturday, Andrew Novak shot a 9-under 62 at the Mexico Open in Vidanta Vallarta to build a six-shot lead, positioning himself for his first individual PGA Tour title at 23-under 190.
Novak dominated the back nine, going 5-under on the first five holes to stretch his lead to seven shots, having made only three bogeys through 54 holes of play.
Matthieu Pavon carded a 65 to sit six shots back, while Doug Ghim shot a 64; American Kihei Akina, a 20-year-old sophomore at BYU, posted a 68 in a tie for seventh.
Pavon requires a strong finish to move inside the top 100, as his two-year exemption from winning at Torrey Pines in 2024 concludes this year; a runner-up finish would secure his standing.
"I'll do my best to put any pressure on him," Ghim said, while Novak remains focused, noting, "You've just got to be patient with it the next day.
