Andhra Pradesh Embarks on a New Era in Defense with Rs 16,000 Crore Combat Aircraft Project
The centre will support integration, testing, validation and certification for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft programme, the Ministry of Defence said.
- On Friday, May 15, 2026, the Defence Minister laid the foundation stone for an Aircraft Integration & Flight Testing Centre in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, to accelerate the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft programme.
- Andhra Pradesh's strategic proximity to the Bengaluru aerospace ecosystem positions the State as a natural extension of India's southern aerospace corridor, building on investments from Bharat Electronics Limited and Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited.
- The Defence Minister also initiated a Naval Systems Manufacturing Facility of Bharat Dynamics Limited at Anakapalli and a Defence Energetics Facility alongside an Ammunition & Electric Fuzes Plant.
- Nine companies are expected to sign Memorandums of Understanding with the Government in the defence and aerospace sector, reinforcing the State's emergence as a leading destination for innovation-led industrial growth.
- The State is developing Aerospace Cities across Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, and Kurnool, alongside an integrated Space City spanning Sri Sathya Sai and Tirupati districts to support advanced space and aerospace manufacturing.
