Anand, McGuinty seek deeper ties in Persian Gulf amid investment push and Iran war
Canada is seeking deeper defence cooperation and new investment as Anita Anand and David McGuinty meet Gulf counterparts.
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is traveling to the Persian Gulf today to strengthen defence and security partnerships while courting global investment for Canada.
Following repeated strikes by Iran, Anand intends to express solidarity with Gulf partners while seeking to advance deeper economic co-operation.
Defence Minister David McGuinty is concurrently visiting Qatar and the United Arab Emirates this week to discuss Canada's regional security role.
Oman and Qatar serve as key regional brokers, facilitating peace talks between Iran and other regional powers as well as between Israel and Hamas.
The ongoing conflict involving Iran continues to affect the Middle East, significantly disrupting international energy markets and broader regional stability.
