NOS has changed the contract terms of more than 820,000 subscribers without 30 days' notice to introduce mandatory advertising on automatic TV recordings. It has already appealed against the decision.
ANACOM imposed a fine of EUR 350,000 on NOS for unilaterally changing the terms of contracts for more than 820,000 customers.
Advertising during TV recordings prompted legal action from the Competition Authority, as well as Anacom (the Portuguese telecommunications regulator). Operators are taking the matter to the Santarém Court. Approximately three million families are affected.
The regulator concluded that more than 821,000 NOS customers were not informed as required by law. The National Communications Authority (Anacom) imposed a fine of €350,000 on NOS for unilaterally altering the contracts of 821,641 subscribers to introduce mandatory advertising in automatic television recordings, without complying with the information obligations stipulated by law.
