An Ash Wednesday service marks start of 40 days fasting

A SONNING church will mark the start of Lent with a Wednesday evening service. Lent is six and a half weeks before Easter, and traditionally marks the beginning of 40 days of fasting and abstinence (except Sundays). Ash Wednesday remembers Christ’s time in the wilderness before beginning his ministry. People can join the event at The Parish Church of St Andrews on Wednesday, February 22 at 7.30pm.
