- The fire occurred after a period of intense heat dried out the region and increased the likelihood of wildfires, with Spain experiencing its warmest June ever recorded last month.
- The blaze consumed an estimated 3,137 hectares, including about one-third in the protected Els Ports natural park, while 18,000 residents were told to stay home.
- Overnight winds gusting up to 90 kilometres per hour hindered firefighting, prompting the Spanish army’s emergency reinforcements; firefighters said they were cautiously optimistic.
