Amit Shah invokes Ram temple, promises UCC in UP if BJP returns to power
On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah pledged that the BJP would implement the Uniform Civil Code in Uttar Pradesh if the party returns to power in next year's Assembly elections.
Addressing a state executive committee meeting in Lucknow, Shah contrasted the BJP's construction of the Ram temple with what he alleged was the Samajwadi Party's history of firing on Ram devotees.
State BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary urged party workers to frame the poll battle as a decisive fight between "vinash aur vikas" and "jatiwad aur rashtrawad," emphasizing engagement with all social sections.
Shah predicted the Samajwadi Party would remain out of power in Uttar Pradesh for the next 30 years, criticizing the Opposition for relying on negative allegations rather than policy discussions.
Madhya Pradesh recently became the fourth state after Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Assam to pass a Uniform Civil Code law, reflecting a legislative trend the BJP now aims to replicate in Uttar Pradesh.
