American Idol’: Chris Tungseth Breaks Down Show Day Preparations Viewers Don’t See
He said show days can last 15 hours as contestants rehearse, meet with mentors and prepare for a cut to three finalists.
On May 4, Chris Tungseth concluded his American Idol journey after reaching the Top 3, marking a first for Minnesota. The Fergus Falls resident was eliminated before the finale.
Preparing for American Idol show days is an intense, demanding process requiring 15 hours of commitment. Contestants navigate a rigorous, non-stop schedule from call time through pickup to final performance.
Braden Rumfelt explained that show days are like a "full-time job," involving vocal coaching, wardrobe fittings, stage blocking, and choreography. Contestants also coordinate lighting setups before live performances.
The Perham Area Chamber toured local businesses with a cardboard cutout of Tungseth to encourage community voting. This campaign provided opportunities for residents to show support during his live performances.
Mentors Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson joined the May 4 episode, with Abdul appearing as a guest judge. Contestants performed alongside professionals from Dancing With during the live broadcast.
