Ambulances called to HMP Wandsworth where Russell Brand is being held
Emergency crews responded as three ambulances, two ambulance cars and fire engines were sent to the prison, with the cause still unclear.
Emergency crews, including three ambulances and fire engines, responded to HMP Wandsworth in South London on Saturday morning at 9:46am. The Ministry of Justice said, "We have been made aware of an incident at height at HMP Wandsworth this morning, which has now been resolved."
Russell Brand, 51, is held at the Category B prison following his conviction on Thursday, November 5, for one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He returns to court on Monday, November 9, for sentencing.
Authorities have not confirmed whether Brand was involved in the incident. Police and fire crews entered the facility, though officials emphasized the event was not a fire.
Wandsworth has faced significant criticism regarding living conditions, with inspectors noting in 2024 that 80 per cent of prisoners share cells designed for one. The facility, housing more than 1,500 inmates, has struggled with rodent infestations.
Brand, who starred in 'Get Him to the Greek' and 'Arthur,' remains in custody ahead of his scheduled sentencing on Monday. Prosecutors previously told Southwark Crown Court that Brand manipulated women to satisfy his personal desires.
