US EditionMet Office Issues Rare Amber Warning for Thunderstorms and Floods in South
BERKSHIRE, ENGLAND, JUL 18 – Torrential rain and thunderstorms may cause road closures, power cuts, and flood damage during Saturday morning, the Met Office warned for parts of south east England.
- A seven-hour amber warning from the Met Office affected Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire between 4am and 11am on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
- The Met Office explained that areas of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms will move northwards early Saturday, with accumulations of 20-40 mm in an hour and up to 70-100 mm over a few hours.
- Due to sudden flooding, rail and bus services likely face delays or cancellations, and forecasters warned some remote communities could become cut off.
- Beyond transport disruption, power cuts could occur and buildings are at risk of damage from floodwater, lightning, hail and strong winds, Andy Page warned.
- Changeable conditions are forecast to continue into next week with downpours and thunderstorms, and the Met Office advised `Keep yourself and others safe; prepare to avoid travelling by road during potentially dangerous road conditions` to stay safe.
