Forensic teams in Switzerland are investigating the cause of the fire and identifying the victims, many of whom suffered severe burns. Local officials say 40 people have died and more than 115 have been injured in a nightclub fire in Crans-Montana. They say identifying the dead is an "absolute priority." Regional authorities said four Serbian nationals were among the injured.
The accident occurred during a New Year's celebration at the "Konstelasion" bar.
The Director-General of the UN office in Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya, stated that she was “deeply shaken by the tragic events” that took place this Thursday in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. On social media, she expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy and full recovery to all those injured. 40 dead and 115 injured.
