Amazon’s new AI wallet: AWS, Coinbase, and Stripe build payment rails for bots

Built with Coinbase and Stripe, the system starts with micropayments for APIs and digital content and could later handle bookings and merchant purchases.

  • On Thursday, Amazon Web Services rolled out Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments, a new infrastructure developed with Coinbase and Stripe enabling autonomous AI agents to conduct real-time commercial transactions.
  • Designed for the emerging "agentic economy," the platform creates infrastructure for autonomous software agents to complete commercial tasks independently within a single execution loop on behalf of users.
  • Built on Coinbase's HTTP-native protocol and Stripe's Privy wallet, the system enables agents to instantly purchase APIs, data feeds, and digital services, often for fractions of a cent.
  • Warner Bros. Discovery is already testing the platform for premium content transactions, while future versions will support larger purchases including travel reservations and merchant payments.
  • Coinbase's Brian Foster notes AI agents will soon outnumber human transactors, requiring "programmable, always on, and global" money for independent operations—a view shared by industry leaders Brian Armstrong and Changpeng Zhao.
