Amazon Unveils Production-Ready Gigabit-Class Leo Ultra Broadband Terminal
Amazon launches enterprise preview of Amazon Leo with Pro and Ultra terminals, aiming to expand coverage and compete with SpaceX’s Starlink, which has nearly 9,000 satellites.
- On Monday, Amazon began an enterprise preview letting select businesses test production Pro terminals and Ultra antennas ahead of a wider rollout.
- Earlier this month, Amazon renamed Project Kuiper to Amazon Leo as part of its relaunch, with a 3,236-satellite constellation and multi-provider launches including five Atlas 5s.
- The company says Leo Ultra supports up to 1 gigabit per second downloads and 400 megabits per second uploads, with a 20-by-30-inch antenna design.
- Early partners include JetBlue, L3Harris and Australia's NBN Co., while the Leo constellation currently has just over 150 satellites and the Federal Communications Commission authorized a Wi‑Fi router last week.
- Amazon says it aims to bring Leo into service next year with Leo Ultra designed for private networking to Amazon Web Services and plans to start service in five markets including the US in Q1.
