Amazon launches 1-hour shipping in US cities to challenge Walmart
Amazon offers one-hour delivery in hundreds of U.S. cities and three-hour delivery in over 2,000 locations with fees varying for Prime and non-Prime customers.
- On Tuesday, Amazon launched 1-hour and 3-hour delivery services across parts of the United States, making over 90,000 products available through its existing fulfillment network.
- This expansion directly challenges rival Walmart, which claims it can deliver to 95% of American households in under three hours, as Amazon pursues years of experimentation with ultrafast services.
- Prime members pay $9.99 for 1-hour delivery and $4.99 for 3-hour shipping, while nonmembers pay $19.99 for 1-hour orders and $14.99 for 3-hour deliveries.
- Amazon Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations Udit Madan stated the move aims to "make customers' lives a little easier while unlocking even more value for Prime members."
- The 3-hour option is currently available in over 2,000 cities and towns, and Amazon expects to expand these services to more areas across the country in the coming months.
