Almere is one of the first municipalities in the Netherlands to impose a vacancy tax on owners who leave homes empty for a year or longer. Almere will implement the new local tax on January 1, 2027. Any homeowner whose property has been vacant for a year or longer on that date will have to pay €2,000 per year, RTL Nieuws reports.
