NYT Says Herrera Family Gave Alina Habba $50 Million Deal Before Pardon
The deal included $10 million a year and bonuses, while the Justice Department said she never discussed the pardon with anyone.
On Tuesday, The New York Times reported that billionaire Julio Herrera Velutini's family hired former Trump attorney Alina Habba for a $50 million role at Concord Partners shortly before President Donald Trump granted him a 'full and unconditional pardon' in January 2026.
Velutini had faced charges regarding a bribery scheme involving Puerto Rico Governor Wanda Vazquez, eventually pleading guilty to a misdemeanor campaign finance violation in August 2025 after hiring attorney Christopher Kise and donating $3.5 million to a pro-Trump super PAC.
Documents and interviews obtained by The New York Times indicate Habba served as a senior adviser to Attorney General Pam Bondi while accepting the Concord Partners general counsel position, which guaranteed her $10 million annually over four years plus bonuses.
Denying any involvement in the pardon, Habba declared the insinuation 'false and defamatory,' while the Justice Department and a White House official stated she played no role and had disclosed her employment to federal authorities.
Critics, including former Ted Cruz staffer Amanda Carpenter, labeled the deal a 'pardon scandal,' while American Bridge chief Pat Dennis characterized the situation as reflective of 'endemic corruption' within the administration.
