Alexander Volkanovski Wants 'Super Fight' that Ends in Two Retirements ...
Volkanovski said a win over Movsar Evloev could lead to a lightweight-title superfight with Justin Gaethje as both fighters weigh retirement.
UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has proposed a retirement 'superfight' against reigning lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, envisioning a winner-take-all bout as a final career send-off for both veterans.
Both fighters are nearing the end of their careers, with Volkanovski at 38 and Gaethje at 37. Gaethje recently captured the lightweight belt at UFC Freedom 250 in June, while Volkanovski has previously pursued 155lb title opportunities.
Before the proposed superfight, Volkanovski must defend his 145-pound title against undefeated Movsar Evloev at UFC 333 on October 24 in Abu Dhabi. Evloev holds a 20-0 record, presenting a formidable obstacle.
Gaethje has not 100% decided whether to retire or face lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan next year. Uncertainty persists regarding the champion's immediate future despite Volkanovski's callout.
Volkanovski's proposal positions the bout as a potential 2027 finale, though he must first overcome Evloev to maintain leverage. The lightweight title is not at stake in the October 24 Abu Dhabi defense.
