O'Ward, Rossi, Grosjean Crash During Indy 500 Practice

The crash damaged at least four teams’ primary cars, and Pato O'Ward and Romain Grosjean were checked and released.

  • On Monday, Alexander Rossi spun hard into the Turn 2 wall during Indianapolis Motor Speedway practice, collecting Pato O'Ward and Romain Grosjean in a multi-car crash about 30 minutes into the session.
  • Rossi's crash occurred on the 2.5-mile oval just hours after IndyCar officials penalized two cars for rules violations during Sunday's qualifying. It was the first incident of the month on the track.
  • While O'Ward and Grosjean were checked and released from the infield medical center, Rossi was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. O'Ward said, "Just feel for the guys that have to rebuild a new car."
  • At least four teams now scramble to repair primary cars, including one in each of the first three rows of the 33-car grid. The final roughly 55 minutes of practice were washed out by rain.
  • Practice was cancelled for the remainder of Monday due to weather, forcing teams to regroup before the final Indianapolis 500 practice scheduled for Friday ahead of the sold-out race.
