Separatist advocate Jeffrey Rath’s UCP party membership revoked for ‘breach of code of conduct’: premier
Smith said the party supports the referendum result and that members who keep campaigning for separation should leave the UCP.
On Friday, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced that the United Conservative Party has revoked Jeff Rath's membership over code of conduct issues, a decision she supports.
Rath, a Calgary-based lawyer and co-founder of the Alberta Prosperity Project, has been a harsh critic of the premier. He campaigned for Smith's resignation and sought to force a leadership vote at the party's general meeting.
Following a referendum held last week where a majority of Alberta voters chose to stay in Canada, Smith emphasized the United Conservatives must respect this outcome and align with the province's decision to remain in Confederation.
Regarding the revocation, the party's executive director made the final decision addressing code of conduct issues and Rath's persistent efforts to force a vote on Smith's leadership at the general meeting.
Smith warned that party members continuing to stump for separation must find a new political home, clarifying the United Conservatives' stance against separatist agitation within party ranks.
