Alaska Airlines Begins Nonstop Flights Between Seattle and Rome
The seasonal daily service is Alaska’s first long-haul route on its own Boeing 787 fleet and runs through Oct. 23.
- On Tuesday, Alaska Airlines launched its first nonstop flight from Seattle to Rome aboard a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking a significant expansion of the carrier's international network from its Seattle hub.
- Alaska's 2024 acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines provided the widebody Boeing 787 jets necessary for long-haul service, enabling the carrier's strategy to establish 12 new intercontinental destinations from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
- To enhance the long-haul experience, Alaska introduced a new premium check-in lounge at Sea-Tac and rolled out 'soft product' amenities including bedding and kits from Pacific Northwest brand Filson and food from Portland-based Salt & Straw.
- Alaska CEO Ben Minicucci stated the service "strengthens Seattle's role as a global gateway," while bookings show guests are choosing Alaska over competitors; Delta Air Lines plans its own Rome service next month.
- While the Dreamliner currently lacks Wi-Fi, Alaska plans to install Starlink service later this year for Atmos Rewards members; London service begins May 21, right before Memorial Day weekend.
