Alanis Morissette Comes Out as Pansexual
Alanis Morissette confirmed the label after a host’s comment, adding to earlier remarks about sexuality and same-sex experiences.
On Tuesday, November 3, singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette came out as pansexual at age 52 during an appearance on the Handsome podcast hosted by comedians Tig Notaro and Fortune Feimster.
When Feimster asked if past negative experiences with men made her "want to be a lesbian at any point," Morissette responded, "I'm pansexual," catching co-host Notaro off guard.
Morissette joked she saved the revelation for the podcast's end because she likes "to leave it for the epilogue," having previously called sexual exploration "a beautiful rite of passage."
Reflecting on her connection to the LGBTQ+ community, Morissette noted, "I've felt love from the gay community since I was really young because all my friends were gay." Her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill earned her a devoted LGBTQ+ fanbase.
During her 2000 guest appearance on Sex and the City, Morissette suggested her character kiss Carrie Bradshaw, saying, "Might it be a nice time for Carrie to experience a lesbian moment?" She noted she would now react differently to intrusive questions.
