Airbus Announces £150m Broughton Investment and 480 New Jobs
The upgrade will add six wing production jigs and about 480 jobs as Airbus boosts capacity for the A321 and wider A320 family backlog.
Airbus is investing £150 million to transform its former A380 wing production facility in Broughton, Wales, into a new assembly line for A321 wings, with completion expected by the end of 2026.
The Broughton plant previously assembled wings for the 555-seater A380 before the program phased out in 2020; this expansion builds on a recent investment at the Belfast facility to support A220 ramp-up.
To address a backlog of around 7,500 A320 Family aircraft, 70 per cent of which are A321s, the upgraded factory will feature six wing production jigs, an equipping line, and a paint shop, creating around 480 new jobs.
Jerome Blandin, head of Airbus Wing, said: "We aren't just talking about a ramp-up; we're putting the infrastructure in place to support it." This investment strengthens the industrial footprint and creates high-value jobs within the aerospace sector.
These new roles join the 6,000-strong workforce in Broughton, signaling a long-term commitment to Wales and reinforcing the site's position as a critical hub in the global aerospace industry as the company targets a production rate of 75.
