Airbus faces new quality problem on dozens of A320 jets: Reuters
Airbus found a supplier quality flaw in metal panels on about 600 A320 jets, causing some delivery delays amid a year-end target of 820 aircraft, officials said.
- On Monday, Reuters reported Airbus SE discovered an industrial quality issue affecting fuselage panels on several dozen A320-family aircraft, with some deliveries already impacted, industry sources said.
- Days after about 6,000 A320 jets were grounded for a software recall over a solar radiation/flight-control issue, Airbus SE faces pressure from year-end delivery commitments.
- 628 aircraft were flagged with potentially non-conforming panels from Sofitec Aero, including 245 on final assembly, 215 in earlier stages, and 168 already in service on crown and main forward door areas.
- Deliveries are being delayed, Reuters reported, and Airbus SE faces risks meeting its target of around 820 plane deliveries this year, requiring more than 160 jets in December as Airbus shares fell as much as 10%.
- With inspections pending, Airbus SE is inspecting all potentially impacted aircraft while expecting only some to need further action and plans to issue an Alert Operators Transmission later this month.
