Air Transat pilots vote to strike if new contract with the airline can’t be reached
Unionized Air Transat pilots voted 99% in favor of a strike authorization with 98% turnout to demand improved wages and contract terms before the holiday travel season.
- On December 3, 2025, Air Transat pilots voted 99% to give the union a strike mandate with 98% turnout, the Air Line Pilots Association said.
- Negotiations began in January and entered conciliation in September, missing the Nov. 18 deadline triggered a 21-day cooling-off period ending Dec. 10.
- Last month, the Air Line Pilots Association, representing more than 700 Air Transat pilots, opened voting while pilots set up a strike centre and picketed in Montreal and Toronto.
- The vote puts pilots in a position to strike as soon as next week, ahead of the busy holiday travel season, but Air Transat said operations are running normally and it aims to negotiate a collective agreement to avoid impacts on passengers and holiday travellers.
- The union notes the current contract lags industry standards as wages at Air Transat have suffered, while the airline received a $700 million bailout loan during ongoing talks.
