For the first time since 2021, the quality of air in France fell in 2025, according to data from the Airparif association published on Wednesday 15 April. A trend that could worsen with the abolition of the ZFE.
This increase in pollution levels last year is, however, "a priori cyclical" compared to the trend of improvement over the long term in the region, according to the annual balance sheet of Airparif.
According to Airparif, pollution levels have risen again last year, for which nearly a quarter of the population are exposed to exceedances of the limit values which are due to enter into force in 2030. The removal of the EFAs is not expected to make any difference.
In 2025, Ile-de-France experienced a slight increase in concentrations of nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter compared to 2024. Despite this trend, overall air quality has improved over the long term thanks to public policies. However, the removal of EFAs is likely to exacerbate pollution.
On Thursday 16 April, Airparif published its annual review 2025 of air quality in Île-de-France. And compared to 2024, the association observed a slight increase in pollution levels. Despite this slight increase, the year 2025 is still in full swing.
