Air India Delhi-Bengaluru flight suffers ‘tail-strike’ during landing; aircraft grounded — what we know so far
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, Air India flight AI2651 carrying 181 passengers suffered a tail strike while landing at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru; all passengers and crew disembarked safely.
An Air India spokesperson stated the incident occurred during an unstable approach, prompting the pilot to execute a go-around maneuver after the aircraft reportedly encountered "wake turbulence."
According to Flightradar24, the Airbus 321 operating flight AI2651 experienced the strike at around 11 a.m. The Federal Aviation Administration defines wake turbulence as rotating air masses affecting stability during critical flight phases.
