Ainslie Creek Fire Moving Towards Highways 5 and 8 as More Orders, Alerts Issued
BC Wildfire Service says 236 firefighters, 19 helicopters and heavy equipment are working to hold the blaze back from Highway 5 and nearby communities.
- The Ainslie Creek wildfire continues advancing toward the Coquihala Highway, with its southeastern perimeter measuring 11 to 12 kilometres from the route; however, the BC Wildfire Service maintains there is no imminent threat to Merritt.
- Following aggressive growth on Monday and Tuesday, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District expanded evacuation alerts to include nearly 840 properties across Electoral Areas I, M, and N near the advancing fire.
- Currently estimated at 61,399 hectares, the Brunswick Complex fire is managed by 236 firefighters and 19 helicopters, with crews establishing structural protection from the nine-kilometre mark of the Prospect Creek Forest Service Road to Nooaitch.
- Both Highway 5 and Highway 8 remain open to traffic despite visible smoke; meanwhile, The Lower Nicola Indian Band and Cook's Ferry Band issued separate evacuation orders and alerts on Tuesday for their respective reserves.
- The Wildfire Service reported "fairly significant heat" on the southeastern flank north of Uztlius Creek, stating the fire has been "making steady progress through denser fuel types eastward" as it consumes unburned pockets.

A 0.6 hectare out-of-control wildfire has sparked west of Merritt. According to BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), the blaze (K61542) was discovered on Aug. 11 at around 2:55 p.m. The fire is listed at Baldy Creek and is suspected to be human caused.
