AI chip startup Positron’s valuation skyrockets in latest funding round
The startup will use the money to finish its Asimov chip and expand Titan production as demand for AI inference hardware climbs.
- On Thursday, Reno-based Positron raised $875 million at a $5 billion post-money valuation, as demand for AI inference hardware continues to climb.
- Thursday's round values the company five times higher than its February figure, when Positron raised $230 million at a $1 billion valuation.
- The financing split into a $375 million Series C and a $500 million Series C-1 led by NEA and Jim Clark, with Forest Baskett and Dylan Patel joining the board.
- Positron Chief Executive Mitesh Agrawal said the proceeds will fund the Asimov tapeout, a 2-megawatt engineering data center, and production of the Titan inference system.
- Production for the Titan system is targeted for the second half of 2027, combining eight Asimov chips to serve AI models exceeding 16 trillion parameters.
