After the fire: Gymnastics club going strong 5 years after Vernon blaze

The club regained a permanent home after community fundraising and temporary space kept programs going for years.

  • NorthValley Gymnastics is thriving today, five years after a devastating Halloween morning fire destroyed its 31st Street facility on October 31, 2021.
  • Years of dedication and fundraising allowed the club to move into its 31st Street location in 2018, including a 2019 'Fill the Pit' campaign when community members purchased foam blocks.
  • Nearby gymnastics clubs provided competitive team training space after the fire, while coach Tori Aeichele said, "The generosity and support of the gymnastics community in the Valley made it possible for these athletes to continue."
  • The club secured temporary space at White Valley Elementary School in Lumby in June 2022, then opened a new 10,000-square-foot facility on 45th Avenue in January 2024.
  • Expanded recreational programming now includes parent and tot and preschool classes, with board member Melissa Locke calling the new home "the light at the end of the tunnel.
