Nottingham Forest Signs Brazilian Center Back Jair Cunha From Botafogo
ENGLAND, JUL 11 – Jair Cunha, 20, joins Nottingham Forest on a five-year deal as the club prepares for its first European campaign since 1996, after finishing seventh in the Premier League.
- In July 2025, Nottingham Forest secured the signing of 20-year-old defender Jair Cunha from the Brazilian club Botafogo, agreeing to a five-year deal.
- The signing came after Botafogo's progression to the round of 16 at the Club World Cup held in the U.S. and took place during Nottingham Forest's ongoing legal concerns regarding Morgan Gibbs-White's proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur.
- Cunha scored one goal at the Club World Cup, made 22 appearances for Botafogo after joining from Santos in February 2025, and followed striker Igor Jesus in moving to Forest.
- Forest's chief football officer Ross Wilson expressed that Jair developed impressively during his time in Brazil and is now eager to take on fresh challenges as he joins the Premier League, adding that he will receive a warm reception at Nottingham.
- Jair Cunha becomes Forest’s second acquisition this transfer window, as the club aims to strengthen their squad ahead of returning to European competition following a strong league performance last season.
