British Airways Owner IAG Bidding For Portugal's TAP
The parent company of British Airways and Iberia, IAG, confirmed Friday that it had submitted a bid for a stake in TAP Air Portugal, joining Lufthansa and Air France-KLM in seeking a stake in the Portuguese carrier.
The group of IAG airlines is already in the race to enter the capital of one of the last major European airlines that flies by free and with 100% public capital, the Portuguese TAP. The holding company that includes Iberia, British Airways, Vueling and Aer Lingus has confirmed this morning the sending of a sample of interest to Lisbon, thus joining the struggle that was opened this week by Air France-KLM and in which Lufthansa later entered.
The British Airways and Iberia Group is the third to declare an interest in privatization. The IAG warns that it needs to clarify "a number of topics before it can propose an investment in the TAP".
