Aer Lingus introduces new passport rule change for all Brits from today
Aer Lingus requires passports or Irish passport cards for all UK-Ireland flights, excluding some domestic routes, to enhance document consistency, the airline said.
- On February 25, 2026 Aer Lingus said all customers on services between the Republic of Ireland and the UK must present a valid passport or Irish passport card, ending acceptance of other photo ID.
- Citing passenger feedback, the airline said it made the change to align travel-document rules across its network and improve operational performance.
- Aer Lingus clarified that domestic Aer Lingus Regional services operated by Emerald Airlines are exempt from the updated policy, including Belfast–UK and Dublin–Donegal routes.
- Passengers can now save on baggage fees as every fare type includes a 10kg carry-on bag, extended across Aer Lingus Regional flights operated by Emerald Airlines.
- Aer Lingus also said the policy would come into effect from Tuesday, March 3, 2026, while reporting noted its bag policy applies on domestic, UK–Ireland and European flights.
