Aditya Birla Capital to Enter Gold Loan Market, Target 1,000 Branches
The new offering will complement its retail and MSME franchise as NBFC lending against gold jewellery rose 69.3% year on year in June.
On Thursday, Aditya Birla Capital announced its entry into the gold loan market, targeting about 1,000 dedicated branches over the next three years to expand its secured lending business.
Driven by nearly 69.3% year-on-year growth in gold-backed credit in June, the move capitalizes on elevated gold prices linked to the Iran war, which increased collateral values and boosted demand for secured loans.
Rakesh Singh, executive director and chief executive- NBFC, Aditya Birla Capital, stated, "Gold loans are witnessing strong structural growth in India, and our entry into this segment is a natural extension of our secured lending strategy."
Aditya Birla Capital joins non-bank lenders competing with established players Manappuram Finance and Muthoot Finance, following recent market entries by Tata Capital and Godrej Capital last month.
The company plans a phased rollout of 200 to 300 gold loan branches by March 2027, targeting high-potential urban and semi-urban markets through physical branches and digital platforms.
