Adam Sandler Penning Third 'Grown Ups' Movie
Kyle Newacheck will direct the sequel from a script by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy after Happy Gilmore 2 delivered Netflix’s biggest U.S. film launch.
During its Upfront presentation in New York City on Wednesday, Netflix officially announced that Grown Ups 3 is in development, marking the first time the streamer has publicly acknowledged the project's status.
The original Grown Ups debuted in 2010, earning $271 million globally, while the 2013 sequel Grown Ups 2 grossed $247 million worldwide, establishing the franchise as a commercial powerhouse.
Director Kyle Newacheck, who helmed the Netflix sequel Happy Gilmore 2 last year, will lead production from a script by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy.
While Netflix has not officially confirmed casting, core cast members Adam Sandler, David Spade, Chris Rock, Kevin James, and Rob Schneider are expected to return for the threequel.
The project continues Adam Sandler's decade-long Netflix partnership, which has produced over 10 films. Tim Herlihy noted, "Definitely not sure we want to just be in the business of doing sequels to movies.
