- On Monday, Chicago residents and attorneys filed nine police reports with the Chicago Police Department, alleging criminal misconduct by federal immigration agents during 'Operation Midway Blitz' last fall.
- The Trump administration launched the aggressive deportation campaign last year; no federal agents have faced criminal charges for on-duty conduct despite widespread reports of excessive force.
- Among those filing reports were Marimar Martinez, shot five times by Border Patrol agent Charles Exum in Brighton Park last October, and Dayanne Figueroa, who alleged detention without charges after a vehicle collision.
- The Chicago Police Department finalized guidelines in July for documenting complaints, which advocates hope will prompt the Cook County State's Attorney's Office to investigate and prosecute federal agents.
- Cook County Commissioner Jessica Vásquez said advocates will continue pressing for accountability. "We are committed to do the work and to continue pushing for justice for all of our people," Vásquez said.
