Chinese authorities have punished 10 people for spreading rumors and false information about a massive mudslide near the Jilong Pass in the Tibet Autonomous Region, which borders Nepal.
The sentences, which can range from fines to 10 days of arrest, are imposed as rescuers on both sides of the border continue search operations following last week's disaster, when a devastating wall of water flooded parts of Nepal and Tibet in China and wiped out entire villages.
