DVAC Searches 25 Properties Linked to DMK’s KN Nehru in Chennai and Trichy
The probe centers on a alleged ₹634-crore bribery scheme in junior engineer recruitment and contract irregularities, officials said.
On Thursday, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption searched the Thillai Nagar residence of former Tamil Nadu minister K.N. Nehru in Tiruchirappalli, with an eight-member team conducting the operation while Nehru was present.
The investigation centers on alleged irregularities in the Municipal Administration Department, specifically claims of a ₹634-crore bribe in junior engineer recruitment during the previous government when Nehru held the portfolio.
Information provided by the Enforcement Directorate regarding irregularities in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department triggered the DVAC investigation, which follows a case registered against Nehru and others.
Meanwhile, more than 200 DMK cadres gathered outside Nehru's residence in support while the search and questioning continued, demonstrating political backing during the operation.
The Madras High Court previously granted an interim stay on further vigilance action and proceedings against the accused, though legal scrutiny regarding the Municipal Administration contracts continues.
