Winnipeg Jets trade Connor Hellebuyck to Devils: TSN
The franchise receives four players and two draft picks for the three-time Vezina Trophy winner with a career .916 save percentage, team officials reported.
On Thursday, the Winnipeg Jets traded goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to the New Jersey Devils, ending a standoff that overshadowed the start of the Jets' season.
Hellebuyck requested a trade several months ago, prompting the Jets to suspend him for failing to report to training camp, a standoff requiring league and Players' Association involvement.
The Jets acquired forwards Dawson Mercer and Nick Bjugstad, goaltender Nico Daws, prospect Alexander Command, and draft picks in 2027 and 2029 for the 33-year-old Hellebuyck.
Joining Jack Hughes with the Devils, Hellebuyck positions New Jersey as a Stanley Cup contender, allowing Jake Allen to return to his usual backup role.
Hellebuyck becomes the latest high-profile American to leave Canada, following Ottawa captain Brady Tkachuk and Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes to the United States.
