2-year-old child killed in excavator collision on private land
A reconstructionist and major crimes investigators are examining the circumstances after the child died in a collision involving a small excavator, police said.
On Saturday evening, a two-year-old child died in a collision involving a small excavator on private property along Route 165 in Irlande, near Thetford Mines, in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
The Quebec Coroners Act mandates an investigation by the Major Crime Investigation Division whenever a child under six dies. Emergency services responded at around 8 p.m. to the collision report.
Investigators met the excavator driver, a man in his twenties, who was released with a promise to appear in court later. A collision reconstruction investigator assists the Major Crime Investigation Division with the case.
Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, Sûreté du Québec spokeswoman, confirmed that the Major Crime Investigation Division will interview family members and witnesses to understand the collision circumstances.
