During the night, a mysterious light was seen over northern Sweden. According to space researchers at Uppsala University, it was due to a Russian rocket launch.
A strange light phenomenon illuminated parts of the Västerbotten sky last night. Police initially suspected it was a Russian space rocket – something that has now been confirmed by the Kremlin.
Several people and police patrols in Umeå observed a light phenomenon at 01.20 that moved across the sky and resembled spotlights on the ground. The incident is explained as a Russian space rocket launched from Plesetsk and was not considered to pose any danger.
Out of nowhere, the sky lit up during the night towards Friday. The phenomenon was visible for several minutes before disappearing over the horizon. – The patrols said it was like a spotlight illuminating the hill in front of them, says police commanding officer Tomas Nyberg.
