The unusual green ice on the Lipno reservoir, which was already pointed out by scientists from the Biological Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in early January, has now been confirmed by satellite images from the European Copernicus program. Images from the Sentinel-2 satellite from December 18, 2025 clearly show the extensive green color of the frozen surface, especially in the central part of the reservoir.

České Budějovice - Green ice, which formed on the Lipno dam due to a high incidence of cyanobacteria in the water, was visible from space. This was confirmed by satellite images taken in December. The České Budějovice Biological Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic reported this in a press release.
